24th August 2008 @ Whilton Mill Kart Club
In heat 1, we had a DNS (Did Not Start) due to the failure of the spark plug on the Dummy Grid & by the time a Good Samaritan ran over with a spare plug, it was too late & the Marshalls wouldn’t let him out. In Heat 2 he finished 4th & he finished 6th in Heat 3. Due to the large amount of entrants again this weekend, there was a B-Final where Matt started in Pole Position due to the points lost for not making the first heat. The top 4 would make it to the back of the Grid for the A-Final. There were a lot of very good drivers in the B-Final that shouldn’t have been there, but were due to incidents/breakdowns during the initial Heats. Matt won this convincingly which meant that he would start 25th in the A-Final. Over an 11 Lap Final, he finished in 9th place & due to the amount of drivers, there were cups given out to 8th place. Unlucky Matt, he missed out on some more Silverware by just one place & would you believe only 1 second !! Another Lap would have done us !! Well Done Again; another excellent drive.
17th August 2008 @ Shenington
This was the second time that Matt had attended the Shenington Track. Approx 45 Cadet Drivers were here for the weekend. In Heat 1 Matt started 10th & finished 1st. In Heat 2 he started 22nd & finished 5th & in Heat 3, he started in 7th place & finished 2nd. All Heats were expertly driven which meant that he started 4th on the Grid for the Final. The Final was over 11 Laps with Matt holding his position for the majority of the Race until a coming together at “Wilkins Corner” between another driver & Matt, resulting in him dropping 2 places. It was neck & neck between the 4th, 5th & 6th (Matt) places at the chequered flag with just over 2/10ths of a second separating all 3. Matt would have undoubtedly got his 4th position back should there have been one more lap. Once Again, Well Done Matt & as there were so many drivers in the Final, he walked away with yet another piece of Silverware for finishing 6th !!
10th August 2008 @ Hunts Kart Racing Club – Kimbolton
The run of bad luck continues this weekend , however, read on, it has a happy ending. In heat 1, we had a DNS (Did Not Start) due to the failure of the carburettor once again. In Heat 2 he started 11th & finished 6th & Heat 3 was a very interesting one. He started 1st on the grid & finished 2nd, however because he jumped the pole position driver at the start of the race by 6/100ths of a second, he was given a 5 place penalty. Did the punishment fit the crime; I think not, however, Matt had to take this on the chin & consequently started 14th on the grid for the Final. He said to his Dad Colin at the start of the Final that he was going to finish in the Top 3. He was well up for it. What a phenomenal drive this was with Matt overtaking 7 of them in the 1st Lap. Over the 12 Lap Final he eased himself further up the field eventually taking 2nd place at the chequered flag. Another piece of Silverware was added to the collection. We wished that this race was videoed as it was the best race of his career to date.
27th July 2008 @ Whilton Mill Kart Club
Matt had a turbulent weekend which started on the Saturday Practice day with him writing off his Zip Blade chassis on the 2nd Lap of the first Practice Session of the day. Someone spun right in front of him & he had nowhere to go but in to the other Kart @ 45mph. Our weekend was going to be cancelled from this incident onwards until Steve Sanders from Snakebite Racing came to the rescue. We travelled to Northampton on the Saturday to collect another “Blade” & had the rest of the day to set it up for the Heats & the Final on the Saturday. A big thank you goes out to Steve @ Snakebite. In Heat 1, Matt finished in 4th place; Heat 2, 12th place & Heat 3,8th place. This meant that he started in 8th position in the final. At the end of the 1st lap on a 13 Lap Final, Matt was pushed from behind in the “Boot” section of the track which spun him around facing the opposite direction. He had no choice but to wait for the other Karts to pass & then carried on. Unsurprisingly, he finished 24th !!

20th July 2008 @ Shenington
This was Matt’s first time at this circuit which he wanted to try out as it is being used for the “Stars of Tomorrow” & “Super 1” Series. There was a very healthy Cadet grid this weekend with around 52 entrants overall. In Heat 1, he started 14th & finished 6th. In Heat 2 he started 3rd & finished 7th & in Heat 3, he started 15th & finished 14th. Not a bad effort for quite a technical track where seconds can be lost if “Bruno Chicane” is not negotiated in the right manner. Matt finished in a commendable 15th position in the Final after starting 18th on the Grid …… Not bad considering there were 52 Cadets there !! Once Again, Well Done Matt.
13th July 2008 @ Hunts Kart Racing Club – Kimbolton
This was the worst weekend in Matt’s career to date as he was fraught with Carburettor problems all day. He was well off the pace finishing 19th, 28th & 24th in the Heats & unfortunately, we couldn’t get the carburettor started for the final so he didn’t even start in the Final …… The less said about this weekend the better. We’ll have to put this one down to experience !! Better luck next time Matt …That’s Racing for you.
6th July 2008 @ Rissington Kart Club
A mixed bag weather wise this weekend as full Wet Tyres, Inters & Slicks were being utilised during the day. Matt finished 1st, 3rd & 9th during the Heats. During the Final, Matt jostled for 1st place with Macauley Austin. Both of them leaving the rest of the pack by quite a distance. Matt eventually took the lead with Macauley right on his bumper when 3 Laps from the end of the race, Matt & Macauley had a coming together which resulted in Matt coming off worse & dropping down to 9th place. Although a complaint was made to the Clerk of the Course regarding the clash of the 2 drivers, it was noted down as a racing incident as none of the Marshalls witnessed it. With 3 Laps to go, Matt fought his way back to a credible 6th place. If it wasn’t for the coming together, he could have won the final against the current Welsh Champion. He would have certainly given him a run for his money should he have finished 2nd. Well fought again Matt !!
22nd June 2008 @ Whilton Mill Kart Club
Another good turnout in the Cadet Class where there were a significant number of Hondas & WTP’s racing with the Comers. All in all, there were 32 Cadets in the Final. Matt finished 7th, 3rd & 9th respectively during the heats & finished 7th in his class in the Final.
6th June 2008 @ Hunts Kart Racing Club – Kimbolton
A good turn out for cadets this weekend as the weather was glorious for the whole 2 day meeting. In Heat 1, Matt started 4th on the grid to finish 8th in what was a poor start due to carburettor issues. The carb kit was replaced in time for the 2nd Heat where he started 5th on the Grid & finished 2nd. He started 11th on the Grid for Heat 3 & finished 4th in his class. This gave us 3rd place in the Final & Matt tried his hardest for the 12 Laps to win this race, however he kept his cool & maintained his position throughout the race to hold on to his 3rd place coming away with yet another trophy ….. Once Again Matt; Well Done.
1st JuneMeeting - Round 4
@ Rissington Kart Club
Although there was a threat of rain from time to time, the circuit remained dry and warm for the entire weekend.
There was a good turnout for Cadets again this month, with Matt Davies winning all three heats, securing him pole for the final. After 10 laps of battling Matt finished 1st followed by Ben Davies and Francis Peters. Fastest lap also went to Matt.
Once Again ...... Well Done Matt !!
25th
May @ Whilton Mill Kart Club
Another win
for Matt: Matt romps home in 1st place in the wet
at Whilton Mill on 25th May 2008
Racing conditions at Whilton Mill this weekend were atrocious due to the
wind & rain.
In Heat 1, Matt started 9th on the grid & finished 19th due to the fact
that he was running on intermediate wet tyres which resulted in him being
6 seconds a lap off the pace. It was clear that a new set of wet tyres were
required.
In Heat 2, he started in 5th position & finished 12th due to another
driver forcing him from behind off the track half way through the race.
Unfortunately, there weren't enough laps left in the Heat for him to catch
up. He was in 3rd position when this happened, however, he was on new wet
tyres & was now on the pace with the rest of the drivers.
In Heat 3, he started in 17th position & finished in 2nd place demonstrating
a blistering pace & setting the fastest lap in the process of 1:06.35
By the time the Final had started, the rain had eased off & the track
was starting to dry out a little but was still considered a wet race. Matt
started in 14th position on the grid & overtook 7 Karts within the 1st
lap. Over the 8 Lap Final, he managed to get in to 1st place & won by
3.5 seconds. He also set the fastest Lap of the Final at 1:05.26 beating
his closest rival by just over half a second.
Once Again ...... Well Done Matt !!
4th May Meeting - Round 3 @ Rissington Kart Club
Another win
for Matt: With more than 150 drivers taking to the
circuit this weekend, the sun shone with scattered showers.
A healthy grid of Cadets were first out to start the third round of this year’s championship. Matt Davies secured a win in heats 1 and 2 followed by James De Havillands finishing second in both. Francis Peters finished third in both heats. James went onto win heat 3, followed by Matt and Jordan Gilbertson. The final saw very close racing with lots of action in the dog leg due to rain falling, Matt secured first place followed by James and Hannah Pymm.
